Judith Bobbitt was born in the remote fishing village of Mutton Bay on the Quebec Lower North Shore. Her formal education began at age fourteen when she went to Montreal to attend Westmount High. In 1971 her education continued in science at Sir George Williams University where she obtained a B.Sc in Honours Physics. She then completed a Masters program which consisted of physical oceanography, meteorology and ice physics at the Marine Science Centre of McGill University.
In 1978 she went to St. John’s Newfoundland to work as a physical oceanographer for a local company. She created Oceans Ltd in 1981 where she has been actively participating in oil industry oceanography programs and other projects for the last thirty three years. Oceans Ltd offers services in physical oceanography, marine weather forecasting, iceberg profiling, bio-monitoring of fish health, establishing design criteria for offshore structure, and various types of climate and oceanography studies. She has created a unique company with highly educated personnel to carry out ocean related scientific research to assist the oil industry with operating in a harsh environment offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.
Her activities include walking her two large Golden Retrievers in St. John’s, NL and salmon fishing on the Mecatina River.
Eldon Bobbitt is the manager of Pourvoire Mecatina. He has been a guide on the Gros Mecatina River for most of his life. He has the knowledge of every rock on the river where salmon hang out on the way to their spawning area. He is also a lobster fisherman and provides lobster freshly caught for the dinner table. The lobster and other seafood come from the sea just outside the Gros Mecatina Estuary.
From Our Guests:
Keith and Russell were fantastic guides. I was really pleased as this trip was a gift for my father’s retirement next year and he had a great time. I am sure that you heard that we caught a lot of salmon (66 salmon hooked by the two of us) along with a lot of big sea trout and did not have to fish too hard. – Michael Livingstone, Manager – Exploration East Coast Mecatina guest in 2015- Michael Livingstone, Manager - Exploration East Coast Mecatina guest in 2015
