Just commuting to Mecatina is an adventure in itself. The trek via air and/or water takes you deep into the remote Canadian wilderness. Spanning plains, huge waterfalls, rocky islands, remote landscapes and water ways, the trip will provide you with a natural spectacle unlike any you’ve ever seen.
Traditionally, there are 2 ways to get to Mecatina...
There are several flight options for reaching Mecatina, and the most common methods include passing through Sept-lles, Quebec.
Through Montreal, you can take Air Canada to Sept-lles, then travel from Sept-lles via Air Labrador to Chevery, Quebec. Canadian Helicopters offers a direct and unforgettable scenic flight direct to the camp from Chevery. Alternatively, you can leave Sept-lles via Air Labrador to Natashquan, Quebec which offers a charter float plane directly to the camp as well.
If you are coming from Newfoundland, Provincial Airlines can take you to Blanc Sablon, through to the camp via charter float plane. If you want the experience of flying to the camp via helicopter, then you can take Air Labrador to Chevery, and Chevery directly to the camp similar to the method above.
The Bella Desgagnes is the costal boat for the Lower North Shore of Quebec, one can either join in Blanc Sablon from the Newfoundland side or Natashquan from the Quebec side.
The Mecatina lodge is one of my favourite places in the world. I have visited the lodge four times over the past fifteen years and each time the experience is exactly the same or better. The fishing is phenomenal and the staff are wonderful. Look forward to fishing the river again and enjoying some homemade bread.
